Immediate Dentures

Immediate dentures are fabricated prior to your natural teeth being extracted. These dentures may be more expensive than traditional dentures because the denturist will be taking measurements and models while your natural teeth are still in your mouth. The first fitting will not be until immediately after your extractions. Many patients prefer this type of denture for the sole purpose of not having any time spent without the appearance of teeth. While waiting for healing to occur there will be tissue conditioners (temporary liners) added to the denture in order to compensate for bone loss and these fittings are at an additional cost, as required. For someone who is healthy it usually takes 4-5 months to permanently reline the denture. For smokers or those with diabetes it will take up to a year, which may require more tissue conditioners/temporary liners. Relines are also an additional cost.In some cases, patients may decide they want to wait for the full healing period before having their denture inserted, which may take up to 6 months. For patients who smoke or are diabetic, (which slow the healing process) it may take about a year
